This year our focus has been on getting SB 74 passed to ensure that your job can’t fire you for declining a vaccine. But there are some other bills out that need attention for those who have time. HB 1279 provides for religious and medical exemptions for families who want to foster children. HB 1506 is another bill that provides exemptions for foster families and adoptive families. Currently, foster families must be up to date on required vaccines. Both of these bills are in the Committee on Family, Children, and Human Affairs.
Representative Dale Devon chairs that committee. If you have the time, please call and email Rep Devon at 317-232-9769 firstname.lastname@example.org
Ask him to give a hearing to HB 1506 or HB 1279. Indiana has a major shortage of foster homes for childrent in need, and these exemptions would allow more people to become foster families.
